Achilles Tendonitis
I managed to hurt my ankle pretty bad…
.
It actually first started to hurt about 2 months ago.
At the time I decided enough’s enough, I didn’t like the Chubsy-Ubsy in the mirror, so I went on a diet. – I jogged everyday & ate low calorie & healthy foods. I would read every food label for calorific content, & do a bit of maths to make sure I am within the daily set limit. (by the way, did you know that baby biscuits make a really tasty low calorie snack?)
And every time I jogged, I could push myself a little further than the previous day & I loved that feeling of accomplishment. But being an obsessive character that I am, when I decide on something, I have a tendency of doing it excessively.
.
Two weeks of that went by. But one morning, when I woke up, my left foot hurt. I thought that I sprained it perhaps, so I put jogging on hold (& subsequently the low-cal healthy eating too…!) but never saw a doctor about it. Besides, I am so busy with the children & then the stall work, I didn’t give it much thought despite it hurting.
.
I know I know, now I feel pretty silly about leaving it unattended like that. Because last Sunday morning, as I got out of my warm bed & ran to the toilets, I pulled on the sore muscle big-time. Like, BIG-time that I couldn’t walk… This finally made me go to the doctors though. I was told it’s Achilles Tendonitis, a sports injury. – I never thought I’d be suffering a SPORTS injury of all things!
.
So guys, no Market this week, I’ve gotta rest my feet. But hopefully next week okay?
.
I seem to be having a string of bad luck this year.
– Two weeks ago my iPhone got nicked in the bus which made me very upset. Like, why steal? Did they look through the family pictures on it? Don’t they have any guilty conscience? It was an invasion of my privacy & I felt uncomfortable & insecure for a while. It was also new, after having the last mobile for 8 years.
– Just before the Summer my laptop got broken by my son spilling a mug full of tea… I had that laptop for 5 years & I was proud of it.
– Our Dvd player got broken by our little one.
– Earlier this year I was pretty ill too.
– And now this.
Maybe I read too much in to this, but in terms of yin and yang, this year feels rather yin. I can only hope next year is yang.
.
oh no that not good at all, I did the same thing :( also gym related…. good luck!

So sorry to hear this — hope you have a chance to rest your foot and take it easy so it will heal quickly. I don’t know what the universe’s message is, but I’m sending feel-better vibes your way!

Thanks Michiko & Snooky & Clotilde! I just can’t believe that the ONLY time I did sport, I injure myself…! I knew I’m on the clumsier side, but… … D’oh!

One:
Give yourself plenty of time to heal completely. Be sure when you heal and return to exercising to be sure to wear high quality athletic shoes that properly support your feet (and possibly your ankles). Also take your time to fully adjust to getting the rhythm of the sport before pushing for better time or repetitions. This may take several weeks.
Two: Calorie counts only go so far. To lose weight more effectively it is much simpler to reduce your total daily caloric intake. (instead of 1800 calories/day, try for 1600) You will know when the amount is right – when you you feel slightly hungry when you go to bed and then very empty and definitely hungry when awakening in the morning. If you start exercising lightly -then only minimally increase your caloric intake. (say 100-200 more calories/day) Another helpful tip is to consume most of your daily calories early in the day. So try to consume 1000-1400 calories before 2pm and very little after that. The idea is to have sufficient caloric energy available during your working (daytime) hours and very little in the hours preceding your bedtime. This will enhance burning of any stored fat on your body while you sleep. (on your empty stomach)
Three: Play around with some ideas for some delicious ideas for bakery treats while you are healing. WE will benefit from this!!! LOL : )
Too bad I’m in the USA and can’t come to your stall any time soon. I am reading at nighttime (gawking at) a cookbook called Kaffeehaus. ISBN number 0609-604-538. It’s all Austrian/Hungarian/Czech pastries and such. I wish you could see it as I am certain you would enjoy it. The photographs alone make me hungry. Reading the ingredients and the directions make me sizzle.
Best wishes on a speedy return to good health!

sorry to hear you are injured and have had a stroke of bad luck.
Comment by Esme - October 2, 2009 5:12 am
Hello Carson,
first of all, sorry that your comment went to the moderation. It must’ve been annoying to spend time writing a message only to find that it didn’t appear on screen…
– And THANK YOU for writing a great advice! You seem like an expert in this, & I’ll take on board your advice – especially what you say about controlling the calorie intake. How I wish I had a personal trainer like the celebrities to monitor me…!!
– As for the book, I had a look on Amazon, & I was able to ‘look inside’. It’s gonna definitely be on my wish list! But oh… you’ve done it now – now I’m craving for Continental European desserts but I’m bound at home…!
.
Thank you Esme! According to Japanese custom/belief I’m slap bang in the middle of my ‘Yaku-doshi’ – which is when the Yin Yang belief says bad luck is easier to happen to you. According to this, next year will still be unlucky for me, but not as bad… Hm, although, I think I’ll take this superstition with a pinch of salt though…

Sweetie! I hope you get better soon, i miss you! And the little blossom.
Lots and lots of love and rest easy. xxxx

hope your ankle heals well! i get frustrated when i can’t increase my work-outs fast enough! but moderation & the long-haul is what gets a person into shape! as for the poor luck–no self-fulfilling prophesies, please. my dtrs. cell just beat the dust when she let her 2 yrold wander in the bedroom–right in reach of a glass of water. the phone went for a swim! poor luck, maybe–lack of foresight, definately (after all, she went through this with the 3 1/2 yrold).
Comment by jonquil - October 2, 2009 1:49 pm
So sorry to hear about the ankle. :( I really hope you feel better soon! One little suggestion – once you’ve recovered, maybe try swimming instead of jogging? It’s much gentler on the body and in addition to being good exercise, makes you feel very zen (well, at least it does that to me :) ).
Lots of good thoughts being sent your way. xx
Comment by Rachel - October 2, 2009 7:12 pm
I really hope the injury heals soon, it is so hard with little one’s. Trying to find flour here in Lyon , France so we can make your lemon drizzle cake again.
Take care
Comment by Trish - October 2, 2009 8:04 pm
Hi Ange, I’m missing you too… Hopefully I’ll be back to my usual self next week! xxx
.
Thanks Jonquil! ‘Moderation’ & ‘long haul’… – I think I was scared that the will-power on dieting might not be as strong if I did it slowly & that’s why I did it excessively! But you are right, next time I’ll plan it out better!!
.
Hi Rachel – I have to confess to something – I’m not such a great swimmer…! I can just about do 3/4 of a length, & it is definitely not zen for me, rather a tiny bit scary for my fear of drowning… Although having said that, I did enjoy swimming last time I went!
.
Hi Trish! Return baker for the lemon drizzle!! Nice one! Makes me happy! ;)

Comment by Tiramisuu - October 5, 2009 5:59 am
Dear Tamami,
Do take care and go slow on your exercise. If you start too fast you will lose that energy fast too and find that you have no motivation. Also do let your ankle heal properly. :)
Comment by angie - October 5, 2009 8:46 am
Thanks Tiramisuu & Angie! I think I’ll put exercising on hold for a while…! My ankle is still tender & now am waiting to go on physiotherapy… But my doctor says it might take 2 weeks for them to give me any appointment…! (Nhs) Oh no…

sorry you have to wait to get an appt. the one time i hurt my foot, i was told to do a series of stretching exercises as i wasn’t getting any younger & my body needs a slight warmup daily! (sigh) hope your family is taking care of you..

Sorry to hear about your foot no fun.
Say I am visiting London in the near future and a must to see your stand..but do you recommend any other attractions? I am a foodie. I appreciate many good food things!!
Thank you! Really enjoy your writing! A smile always occurs when reading your site!

Thank you Lyn for your kind words!!! I wrote an article on:
https://www.cocoandme.com/2009/07/28/london-travel-tips/
which might give you an idea…
For foodie tips, I can’t think of places that are worth mentioning… Er…, oh! I know, what about The Wolseley in Picadilly? I haven’t been in a while, but I love the place.
And it’s on the same street as Fortnum Masons (their selection of honey is superb) & La Maison du Chocolat… And few doors down, there’s the traditional Japanese sweets store called Kamakura Minamoto Kitchoan. I always go in there when I am in the area.
Anyway, hope this helps…!

Hello Anna! How fantastic that you are learning about Christian. – I’ve emailed him to ask about the title. I’ll let you know when I get a reply!
Comment by Tamami - December 1, 2011 10:26 pm
Hello Anna,
the title is called ‘On the way to picnic’.
Also, Christian has mentioned to let you know that he is now using his mother’s maiden name now – so his name is now Christian Hidaka.
Good luck with your final essay!!!!!! I think it’s fantastic that you chose him as your subject!
All the best,
Tamami Haga
(ps: I have also emailed you the same text)
