Happy Halloween 2007!

Jack O' Lantern by Coco&Me

This year, what with our son old enough to notice the Halloween mood in the air, I bought a medium size pumpkin at my new local grocery shop, & we carved a Jack O’ Lantern for our very first time!

.

It was totally great fun, easier to cut than what we’d imagined. We love our ikkle Jack so much, … watching the warm coloured candle flame & the whole pumpkin glowing, it’s rather soulful. – – It’s shame to think he’s gonna rot away eventually… But then again, that’s the way nature intended, innit… Just expect about 10 Jack O’ Lanterns next year. Coz I’m totally hooked!

  2. Yes, first time to carve Jack o’Lantern for me too. Good fun and much easier as I imagined it. Taking the picture out in the garden in the dark was fun too, tripod out, scarf and hat on etc. Would like to see your masterpiece of Jack o’Lantern!

  3. Hey Tamami! A very handsome jack o’lantern you’ve got there! Your post brought back many happy Halloween memories of my childhood… I remember making a jack o’lantern one year using my grandma’s Korean squash she grew in her allotment. I won first prize at school! He was a very funny looking jack o’lantern, as you can imagine! Are you going to bake some pumpkin pies with the pumkin flesh you carved out??

  4. Toyomi-san, Happy Halloween to you too, from London!

I bet you used a delicious Japanese pumpkin to carve from… (mine was watery & wasn’t worth the effort of making any pumpkin dishes from. Except I did rescue the seeds & roast them…, which wasn’t spectacular in flavour though…)

I’d also love to see your Jack O’ Lantern! If you’ve taken a picture, why not send it to my email address: contact (at) cocoandme.com ?

    Take care, Tamami

  6. And Keiko, I didn’t know halloween & Jack O’ Lantern-making was a big thing in Japan! (or was it because you went to international school??)

And ohh, your grandma… how is she?? (still wearing the pink helmet?!) Trust you to win first prize! ;-) you creative thing.

  7. No, obaachan is sadly too old for scooter now. She gets around in her electric bicycle. Halloween wasn’t big at all when I was growing up in Japan. It was because the international school I went to was very Americanised. I think Halloween is getting a bigger profile in Japan now though, just like here in the UK.
